MRT (subway)

In the capital city of Taiwan, Taipei. You can make use of the MRT or better known as the subway. Its a very convenient way to get around in big cities. The MRT system is well organized and easy to use, also fairly priced. You can use for example google maps and its well up to date, it will give you the right instructions that are easy to follow and most of the time be correct,t his applies to all the public transportation services in Taiwan. Paying by easycard is an easy paymethod for MRT and the bus in Taiwan, you can buy them in different type of convenience stores and just charge them with the amount of money you wish, paying by cash is also a possibility.

Trains in Taiwan

Taiwan is really famous for traveling by train, not only is it convenient and well organized, you can just enjoy the stunning scenic views from the mountains and the sea while traveling by train around Taiwan. There are 3 different types of trains : Express train, semi-express train and the local train. The express is the fastest but also the most expensive, the semi-express is the middle way and the local is the cheapest but the slowest. For short distances is the local train a good option but the more distance you have to cover we suggest taking the semi-express or the express train. Overal for public transportation in Taiwan are trains the most popular and convenient for long distance journeys.

Bus in Taiwan

For public transportation in Taiwan, there are 2 different ways to get around by using different kind of busses. The 2 most common types of busses are the local bus and the express bus. The express bus is mostly used to go to different nearby cities, you can find this kind of bus in the bus station of city you are located. The local bus just goes around the town or city you are.

Taiwan high speed rail (THSR)

The fastest option but the most expensive one is the Taiwan high speed rail (THSR), you will also have to book in advance to get a ticket for this train because there are only a few trains running and day and they are quickly sold out. It only runs around the west coast of Taiwan and connecting the main big cities on the west coast of Taiwan. The Train is able to reach up to speeds of 300km/hour.

Uber or Taxi

As last option you can make use of Uber or a taxi in Taiwan. Obviously in general this option is more expensive then the previous one but every now and then we need to make use of these. The Uber and the taxis are operating around all of Taiwan but we would not suggest using these as a long distance solution for transport.
